Itinerary, reservation and issued ticket: understand the difference

Three documents can describe the same flight while proving very different things.

An intended itinerary

An itinerary describes a proposed route and dates. It can be useful for planning, but it does not by itself prove a booking exists in an airline system.

A temporary reservation

A reservation may have a booking reference and a ticketing deadline. Its status can change or expire. Check the actual reference, status and deadline with the airline or reservation provider.

An issued ticket

An issued ticket normally includes a ticket number and payment or issuance records. Confirm the details directly with the airline. A booking reference alone is not evidence of ticket issuance.

Choose based on the actual requirement

Ask the airline, consulate or official destination source what document is required for your nationality, visa category and journey. Neither a planning itinerary nor a temporary reservation guarantees visa approval or permission to board.
